Research at the MAGRC

Visit the MAGRC in person to access the growing local, provincial, national and international library holdings, the Names Database and the cemetery Cemsearch Database. Membership in Friends of Marilyn Adams includes access to the library resources.

Volunteers are happy to help. General inquires are welcome. Our dedicated volunteers are happy to help you find the information you wish at a very reasonable cost. The Names Database and the Heal Database are online and searchable. Currently there are over 1.5 million names from the genealogies, births/deaths records, marriages, obituaries, pedigree charts and other genealogical records in the library. These are indexed in the databases. These user-friendly databases allow a search by name, then a library number is displayed and page number for the name being researched.

Follow this procedure: ...on the selected database, do a name search and then click on the small box to select the ones you wish to research; the names NOT selected will be eliminated from your printed list. Only the checked names will print. Print the list. Bring the list(s) with you to the Research Centre.

You can also create and submit a list of the records you would like researched by e-mail. Our volunteers will photocopy and send the information to you by postal mail. The hourly rate for research is $20. If your request will take longer than 1.5 hours ($30), we will contact you before proceeding.

The Heal Database is an index compiled by Hugh Heal of 175,000 of the over 200,000 names in the Heal Collection at the MAGRC. As with the Names Database, a list of entries of interest can be compiled and/or e-mailed from the database to the MAGRC where volunteers will photocopy, assemble and mail the relevant material for a nominal fee (see above).
