 Johannes
(John) Helmut Merz, April 21, 1924 - March 24, 2006
March 2006: Researchers
across the world, interested in the Hessians of the American
Revolution, suffered a great loss with the passing of John Merz on
March 24th, 2006. With his family at his side he passed on after a
brief illness. He was in his 82nd year. Beloved husband of 60 years to
Emmi, loving father of Inge Parada and her husband Tony, Norm and his
wife Joanne, Connie Harper and John Merz Jr. Fondly remembered by his
grandchildren, Tony Jr., Vicki, Mathew, Paul Jr., Steven and Dylan.
During the celebration of his life on March 29th in Hamilton, Ontario,
it was noted that he had arrived in Canada, from Germany, with $94.00
and a family to look after. After his retirement he decided to
research the Hessians while stopping at the Rose House Museum in North
Marysburgh, Prince Edward County. John spent the next 20 years
documenting the Hessians and their settlement in North America after
the American Revolution. In 2004 John donated these records to Seventh
Town Historical Society for the Marilyn Adams Genealogical Research
Centre. The life of John Merz will live on in his work, the result of
his generosity and sense of history, as researchers continue to access
it.

Donations
Keep Rolling In!!
June 2005: Donations have been arriving steadily in 2005, with an
average of about 20 new genealogies per month, which when added to the
over 1,500 we had at the MAGRC at the end of 2004, brings us to around
1,600. We will probably pass the 1,700 or 1,800 mark this year.
Pictures, diaries, directories, maps, bibles, and other material which
are arriving regularly, are making the Marilyn Adams Genealogical
Research Centre THE place to research your family. What
Will Happen to Your Records??? Each of us has acquired
genealogical records, family photos, old bibles, maps, wills and other
material, all of which need a home when we can no longer look after
them. Our families may not have the room or interest to look after
"our old stuff" as we like to believe they will. Protect
your records for the future by placing them in a Genealogical Research
Library like MAGRC, so your family and others will be able to see and
use them. Everyone will thank you. If you have not yet sent your
material, why not consider it to-day. Tax receipts (Canadian) are
issued by 7th Town Historical Society.

horse". Gladys was born on a farm, carved from the Ameliasburg

grandparents. On February 26, 2005, 7th Town Historical Society

 Rose
House Museum Donates Over 80 Genealogies of the Hessian Families of
Marysburgh
Oct
4, 2004: Stan Broadbridge, a Volunteer at the Marilyn Adams
Genealogical Research Centre in Ameliasburg, receives, from Susan
Rose, Curator of Rose House Museum, two of the more than 80
genealogies that the Community Oversight Committee of Rose House
donated to the MAGRC to become part of the Hessian Research Centre
that is now located there. Susan Rose stated "that it makes a
lot of sense to have these genealogies of the Hessian Families of
Marysburg with the other Hessian Research that is now housed in the
County".
