| This innovative, new research program is an index to over
1.1 million from some of the genealogies held in the MAGRC library. Researchers can locate names of possible interest to them, along
with the library reference numbers of the relevant documents. The
program also allows researchers to segregate these names, assemble them
into a list, and e-mail this list to the MAGRC with a request for research by the centre's
volunteer staff. Upon receipt of the request, the centre's researchers
locate and photocopy the specific pages identified, and they go several
steps further by examining other documents and records in the
library which have not yet been indexed into the database, often locating
additional valuable information. The results are assembled and mailed,
often within one or two weeks. This new program has proven to be very
popular across Canada, the United States and overseas. The hourly rate for
research is $20, with a minimum charge of $10. If your request will take
longer than 1.5 hours ($30), we will contact you before proceeding. Our long-term aim is to
have the contents of our library indexed. |

The
Heal Database is an index compiled by Hugh Heal of over
147,760 of
the over 200,000 names in the Heal Collection at the MAGRC. This
collection is comprised of the research notes and papers of Hugh's
brother, James A. Heal, of Nepean, Ontario and their first cousin,
the late Ruth (Cater) Tester of Brandon, Manitoba--collectively
representing over 55 years of research. It includes worldwide data
on HEAL(S), also HEALE(S), HELE(S), HEALL(S), HEEL(S), HEELE(S),
HALE(S), HOLE(S), HALL(S) and related families including MELHUISH,
TOLEMAN, McADOO, HURD and others. With roots in Devon, Somerset
and Cornwall in England, branches have spread to other parts of the
British Isles, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the USA and other
countries. The bulk of the collection spans over 500 years from the
16th to 20th centuries, with the earliest records dated in the early
1200's. Records indexed include extracts from wills, census returns, church
registers, English birth, marriage and death indexes (1837-c1904),
Boyd's marriage index, pedigrees and genealogies, file cards, and
family charts. As with the names database, a list of entries of
interest can be compiled and e-mailed from the database to the
MAGRC, where volunteers will photocopy, assemble and mail the
relevant material for a nominal fee. |
